WHAT IS A HEALTH EDUCATOR?
 
Health educators are educated professionals that help folks prevent illnesses. They give up to date, accurate information, related to many health topics. A health educator uses a variety of educational methodologies to inform their targeted learner. He or she has the potential to influence the health habits and behaviors of all aged individuals.
 
Currently, there are over 66,000 health educators employed in the United States, yet only 9000 of those are CHES certified. They work in a variety of environments, from independent consultation, private businesses, public health, non-profit organizations, corporations, public schools, colleges, universities and health care facilities.
 
WHAT DOES CHES STAND FOR?
 
Certified Health Education Specialist. In order to hold the CHES credential an individual must meet eligibility requirements and successfully pass a competency-based examination demonstrating skill and knowledge of the "Seven Areas of Responsibility of Health Education Specialist", which are as follows:
 
1) Assess needs, assets and capacity for Health Education
2) Plan Health Education
3) Implement Health Education
4) Conduct evaluation and research related to Health Education
5) Administer and Manage Health Education
6) Serve as a Health Education resource person
7) Communicate and advocate for Health and Health Education
 
They are highly trained to co-ordinate a variety of vital programs to improve the quality of the lives of employees, students and families.
 
WHAT CAN THEY DO FOR ME?
 
A CHES consultant can help you design a health promotion program for you, your business, school or organization. CHES consultants can assist to increase job satisfaction and productivity, improve student performance, minimize absenteeism, decrease work or school related injuries, make reductions in occupational risks, worker's compensation claims, and bullying or harassment in the workplace/or schools. He or she can improve the health of your employees, which leads to lowering your overall health related costs . A CHES can be a valuable member to your school, business or organization.

WHAT IS A SEXUALITY EDUCATOR?
 

Sexuality Educators believe in a comprehensive approach to Sexuality Education. He/she is there to provide accurate and up to date sexuality information about a range of topics. Some of the topics can include, but are not limited to, communication, power in relationships, love, friendships, attachment theories, sexual health, sexual function and dysfunction, sexually transmitted infections, contraception, sexual and reproductive anatomy and physiology, family planning, pregnancy/childbirth, gender identity and gender roles, sexual orientation, sexual identity, sexual pleasure, sexual variation, sexuality and disability, sexuality and chronic illness sexual development across the lifespan, sexual abuse, assault, and coercion, cultural influences upon sexuality and sexuality across cultures.

 
DO HUMAN SEXUALITY EDUCATORS WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS OR GROUPS?
 
Sexuality education is a life-long process of acquiring information and forming attitudes, beliefs, and values. Sexuality educators may teach in or out of a classroom environment. He/she may provide group or one-on-one client education sessions. Children, adolescents and adults may benefit from Sexuality Education. Trainings for medical/health professionals, corporate, outreach and community-based organizations and faith-based settings are just some of the groups that Sexuality Educators can help. Many design and conduct workshops, courses, seminars, contribute to the sexuality education literature and/or research, develop curriculum, plan and implement programs.
 
Elena has been working as a sexuality educator with individual and groups since 2006 and enjoys helping individuals, couples, groups and organizations find and embrace their own "voice of sexuality"!
